ABOUT ME

Hey! My name is Grace Sohun Shin. I am a senior at the Orange County School of the Arts, in the Visual Arts Conservatory. I'm a student artist who loves to create mixed media art, along with other mediums: oil paint, acrylic paint, watercolor, gouache, stamp making, charcoal, colored pencil, ceramics, woodwork, and more. As an individual with multicultural experiences, I have a great passion for learning about different cultures and supporting cultural diversity.

Artist Statement

Through paintings, sculptures, and videos, I highlight the chaos that people experience amidst wars while questioning the reason behind the outbreak of such wars. My work explores the multifaceted, complex, and intertwined nature of humans, reflecting the conundrum between determining the right and wrong during extreme occurrences like wars. My art reflects the frustration and confusion in trying to seek answers as to why conflicts continue to exist in this day in age when they merely stem from the lack of understanding of the multifaceted nature of human beings.

We’ve grown so accustomed to wars that we perceive it as inevitable. However, in reality, wars are a choice of conscious decisions. Revealing the truth of childish intentions behind catastrophic wars, my art highlights the reality of the futility of wars in contrast to the countless deaths and tragedies, encouraging the audience to nourish the choice we have and voice our opposition to the tragedies of war.
